Venerdì 22 aprile 2016 alle 18,30 si inaugurerà a Palazzo Corvaja di Taormina una grande mostra che racconta i 50 anni di Pop Art celebrati con 50 grandi artisti internazionali.

L’iniziativa, che rientra nella programmazione di Emergence Festival (Festival Internazionale di Interventi Urbani) è curata da Giuseppe Stagnitta e Julie Kogler in collaborazione con Giancarlo Carpi, documenta il percorso innovativo e rivoluzionario che ha cambiato il modo di vivere l’arte di oggi, tutto ha inizio con la Pop Art, si evolve con i Graffitisti e il Pop Surrealism, per arrivare a quella che si può definire una vera e propria controcultura: la Street Art.

L’evento inaugura la “Settimana della Cultura” della Città di Taormina ed è patrocinato dal Comune di Taormina e da Taormina Arte e organizzata da Studio Soligo e Musica e Suoni.

Le opere esposte saranno oltre 80 “pezzi unici”, provenienti da famose collezioni private di tutto il mondo e da importanti gallerie d’arte. Descriveranno una rivoluzione, la rivoluzione Pop, che a partire dalla fine degli anni ‘50 ha influenzato l’immagine, il costume, la pubblicità e innumerevoli aspetti della vita moderna.

Il percorso che nasce in Inghilterra con Richiard Hamilton, diventa popolare negli Stati Uniti grazie alla grande forza comunicativa del personaggio Warhol, va in strada e diventa per tutti con Keith Haring, Basquiat trasformandosi anche in momenti di grande estemporaneità legati alla musica con Doze Green, si diffonde in tutto il mondo passando anche dall’Italia, con una modalità più umana e colta, con Mario Schifano e Tano Festa. Si sviluppa in tutto il mondo, trasformandosi e evolvendosi, emblematico il Superflat del giapponese Tarashi Murakami, oggi tra le varie strade percorse dagli artisti figli dell’esperienza Pop citiamo il portoghese Vhils e lo spagnolo Okuda, passiamo poi al Pop Surrealism con Mark Ryden, Ron English e Nicola Verlato arrivando a Shepard Fairey e soprattutto a Banksy, che crea un nuovo modo di fare e vivere l’arte rivoluzionandola.

Alcuni degli artisti presenti in mostra nel mese di giugno realizzeranno un muro a Giardini Naxos per Emergence Festival 2016: lo spagnolo Dourone, la polacca NeSpoon, gli italiani Jbrock, Zed1, Moneyless, Marco Guè, Salvo Ligama e per finire il land artista Massimo Paganini.

Friday, April 22, 2016 at 18.30 at Palazzo Corvaja in Taormina (Italy) a large exhibition will celebrate 50 years of Pop Art showcasing the work of 50 renown international artists.

The initiative, which is part of the programming of Emergence Festival (International Festival of Urban Interventions) is curated by Giuseppe Stagnitta and Julie Kogler in collaboration with Giancarlo Carpi, and documents the innovative and revolutionary path that has changed the art of today. It all begins with Pop Art, evolving into Graffiti and Pop Surrealism, to finally get to that might be called a true counterculture: Street Art.

The event inaugurates the “Week of Culture” of the City of Taormina and is sponsored by the City of Taormina and Taormina Arte and organized by Studio Soligo and Musica e Suoni.

The exhibited works will be over 80 unique pieces from famous private collections around the world and important art galleries. They describe a revolution, the Pop revolution, which from the end of the 1950s has influenced the image, fashion, advertising, and many aspects of modern life.

The path, born in England with Richiard Hamilton becomes popular in the US thanks to the great communicative power of the character Warhol, goes then into the street and becomes for everyone with Keith Haring, Basquiat. It turns into moments of great improvisation with Doze Green, it spreads throughout the world, including Italy, in a more humanistic and cultured manner, with Mario Schifano and Tano Festa. It spreads all over, transforming and evolving, like the work of the Japanese Superflat Tarashi Murakami. The various routes taken by Pop artists include the Portuguese Vhils and the Spanish Okuda, then move on to the Pop Surrealism with Mark Ryden, Ron English and Nicola Verlato coming to Shepard Fairey and Banksy, who creates a new way of creating and revolutionizing art.
